Letter of Intent:

Education is not static. It is an organic and dynamic experience that changes as much as our children. New perspectives and fresh ideas drive education to grow with the changing needs of students and equip them with the adaptive skills needed to succeed in an unpredictable future.
My formal education at the University of New Mexico gives me a solid foundation in traditional teaching models, while my diverse professional and volunteer experiences have taught me the insight and flexibility to grow and adapt with our students.
A Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism gives me a strong background in human interaction and communications. My English minor provides me with a concrete base in literature and writing. My Master’s Degree in Secondary Education ensures I am well-versed in teaching methods, education history and curriculum development. The student teaching internship I completed has been the most valuable in instilling me with the flexibility and experience to run a successful classroom.
Facilitating confidence courses and team-building retreats helped me become an expert at group dynamics and at developing safe, yet challenging, positive communities. Participating in building a community garden and spearheading local awareness projects gave me the opportunity to interact with all levels of the community while working toward a more knowledgeable, more democratic, and more beautiful world.
English and media literacy have been passions of mine since high school. I firmly believe educating youth through reading is key to cultivating the awareness and knowledge necessary for a successful society. English does not stop with reading however; while books provide lessons for a brighter future, it is the life experiences we bring to books that make them valuable learning tools.
The combination of my education, my life experiences, and my passions make me a valuable asset to your school. I am an eager learner who relishes the chance to be put into new, challenging situations. I can be reached at orcakh@hotmail.com.

Sincerely,

Kitty Hurst
